"I saw that everything was going to be alright. It was alright; it always had been alright; it always would be alright - no matter what happened. I didn't just think this: suddenly I knew it. Not only was I no longer concerned with success; I was no longer even concerned about satisfaction. I was satisfied. I was no longer concerned with my reputation; I was only concerned with the truth. "

I am Flamingo. I am coming into town this coming Sunday. In the past week I have been called and offered a job in SLC and they are flying me and my lovely wife Jeneye out for a visit. I have been out before on business but she has not so we are coming to show her the area. THis is all happening very fast for us and we are a bit overwhelmed. We will be in town from Sunday morning thu Wednesday eve and would love to meet up with some burn family.

We are both vet burners and we used to head up The Pink Flamingo Lounge. Any chance of meeting up ? We would love to get a knowledge of the are from some of you all.

Hello UT burners! This is a bit of an x-post from the Element-11 tribe.

I wasn't going to be going to Burning Man this year but work brought me to UT which puts me very close! I was looking to carpool out there, I have very little gear and will contribute to gas costs. Most of my gear will be going out to the playa on the boston container truck so I'll only be bringing a small amount of clothing and my food and water and a small cooler full of Otter Pops! Unless I can convince my boyfriend to haul my water out then woo! Less stuff!

My dates to leave are fairly flexible after the 30th. I don't mind getting there a little late as my work will be in production mode through the 10th so I'm sneaking away early, with the director's blessings. I was originally going to drive out with him but things got behind schedule. My flight back to Boston is on the 9th of Sept.

Anyway, contact me off list or on here if you like. I wished I'd known about burning man and the awesome community when I was but a wee weirdo growing up in Ogden!

(xpst) Fundraiser Pancake Breakfast

Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
Aug 16th - 7:30a-11:30a
Sunnyside Park (1650 East Sunnyside Ave which is 800 South in SLC)
followed by Community Mtg. at noon, same location

Hi everyone. We've been hard at work to create a fundraiser for everyone trying to get to Black Rock City. To this end, we will be hosting an early morning PANCAKE BREAKFAST at Sunnyside Park on Sun., Aug 16th, 7:30 - 11:30AM. The picnic location is Sunny Side Park, 1650 East Sunnyside Ave (800 South) in Salt Lake City. Its an all you can eat pancake breakfast, specializing in all sorts of pancakes (blueberry, banna, choco chip, classic, etc.).

This is how it works...you can purchase packs of twenty tickets for $20 and you then sell them for $5 each. That's an $80 increase to your $20 that you can use any way you'd like towards Burning Man. The $20 you pay for a packet of tickets goes diretly to suppor the transportation and supply needs of Utah's Regional Village at Burning Man, Transformation Beyond Zion.

Our goal is to help 100 Utah Burners get to Burning Man - so purchase your packet of 20 today and be ready to share pancakes with the friends, family and neighbors of our community!!

It's radical self-reliance and community support in action - be part of it!!

Contact Mark (aka Sound Seminary) at 801-738-7830 or Terra at 801-634-3174 for more information.

Artistic Radical Inclusivity & Self Reliance

Artistic Radical Inclusivity & Radical Self Reliance=Burningman Spirit

The idea that started me on the burners path, by invitation of my sister a long time artist, was that it was about letting go of the past, that everything that has happened in our life, at burningman, for Larry could through ritual of starting with a blank slate, tabula rasa, then create an expression of who we were being in our past, and burn it because our past has nothing to do with our present possible community in Utah. Everything that happened good and bad, can be wiped away so that we can become a community that represent the spirit of buringman.

Pam called out to Utah for a name of this year's event. The first thing that came to my mind was Transformation. Transformation like a butterfly, is not just changing and changing back, but transforming your way of being forever more. I wondered why I put this out to a group I didn't know. I was amazed given that I haven't had the possibility of meeting these amazing artist here in Utah that my suggestion would ever be voted on or win.

This is a type of click isn't it, but it's one that anyone who is willing to participate, not just be a spectator but jump into the fire and get a little dirty and burned could find a home. Every burn I went to from LA, SF and now in Utah gave me the possibility to find instant friends who once they saw I was a man of service immediately included me in the family.

Now that you gave me this opportunity to burn my past which was more then I can begin to share, I am free to be a burner again, to gain the best possibility of community by jumping in and sharing.

It doesn't matter if one is a good greeter or bad, great fire performer or just learning, but that we try to do more than just watch, but choose to be part of the transformation of our world.

“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
Al bert Einstein

One love, one family, jump in

Im in SLC, Im chill, have an Ipod with headphones, in case you don't want to talk or have talking (who knows ), I just want to be non intrusive. I have a bike, 2 large storage bins, water, lrg trash can , sleeping bags, a cooler ,1 lrg suit case. No, Im not already packed, but I am pretty psyched, I have been to 2 regional burns, and realize that I would rather be with burners !!!! I have read a couple of the survival guides completely, I have lots of friends that are also helping me with suggestions, costumes etc. so Im feeling less "un-prepared"

Burningman Iphone App

Burning Man 2008: A Photo Essay
Tue, June 2, 2009 - 2:18 PM
After 9 months of work shooting and editing images, writing the essays, working with Burning Man on permissions, learning to write iPhone apps, developing the application, and dealing with the nightmare of the Apple approval process, my first iPhone App is finally available in the iTunes store...
Burning Man 2008: A Photo Essay
silentcolor.com/projects/burningman2008/

Please share this link with anybody and everybody you know who has an iPhone or iPod touch, and/or an interest in Burning Man (and share the link on tribe, facebook, twitter, etc. if you like).

And if you do get the app, *PLEASE* go back to the app store and enter a numerical rating, and if possible, a brief written review. This is crucial for the success of the app.

Thanks!

We have a matching grant challenge to help us raise the funds we need to build a lasting, community owned Center Camp shade structure.

Here's how it works, every dollar (or equivalent) donated to Utah Arts Alliance dba Element 11 Festival for the Center Camp structure will be matched up to $1,000 - this means we can turn $1,000 in donated materials into $2,000 - but we need your donations - fast!! Donate $5 and it becomes $10, donate $50 and it becomes $100... all of which becomes a Center Camp for the whole community to enjoy...

To make a donation please visit www.UtahArts.org and click on the 'make a donation' link (your donation is tax deductible!). If you have materials and would like to make an 'in-kind' donation please email terra@utaharts.org

This center camp structure is being built to last - it will serve as Center Camp at Element 11 and for the Regional Village at Burning Man this year. The structure is designed for easy transport and construction. Our vision is for it to become a Living Fire Arts display - everything from the shade structure to the performances, education and art it accommodate will exemplify our community.

A model of the structure is on the front page of www.element11.org If you would like to contribute in any way, please contact terra@utaharts.org

Please spread the word, help us raise Center Camp! Thank you!

xpst Center Camp Materials

(See drawing on www.element11.org)
We have a plan to build a lasting Center Camp structure that would belong to
Utah Arts Alliance dba Element 11 Festival and be specifically for the use and
enjoyment of our Community in years to come. This Center Camp shade structure
will be part of Element 11 and the Regional Village - it could also be used at
other art festivals as fits our community need(s). This structure is designed
to support hanging art (including silk performances). A 'storage box' also
doubles as a stage in the center.

This is not built to burn, it is built to last. Donations to build the
structure either in-kind or cash could be tax deductible. If you are able and
would like to sponsor this structure today the total estimated cost for all
materials to build the basic structure is $2,500. (this estimate does not
include sound or light installations). Please email terra@utaharts.org for
details.

in order to make it happen we need a few simple things:

1. Posts - Qty 8, Size 4"x4" in either 16ft ($23.08 ea) or 20ft ($33.20 ea)
lengths (or equivalent - metal or wood posts could work) ($200 - $300)

Posts - Qty 16, 4"x4" in 6ft lengths ($150)

2. Wire Cabling - Qty 1,000 ft, coated (rust proof) ($240 *this is based on a
community connection to a discounted price)

3. Shade Material - Qty 8, 20' x 20' squares with grommets either clipped on or
pounded in ($1,000 - based on quoting shade made of Aluminet - a highly
recommended 'playa proof' shade material)
**feeling creative? Consider contributing a single 20ft x 20ft square of shade
material - flame proof material so we can have fire performances and porous
material that will withstand high winds please. Questions? email
terra@utaharts.org

4. Clips and other hardware to secure the cabling to the posts and shade (approx
$300)

5. Plywood - Qty - 11, 4'x8' ($70)

6. Supports - Qty 8, 2"x4" 12 ft length (could be recycled from pallets) ($40)

7. Rebar - Qty 64, candy-caned ($70)

8. Steel bar supports - qty 8, 20 ft lengths ($200)

9. Paint, finishings, etc. ($150)

This would build the basic structure donations of sound and lighting would also
be appreciated.

Please contact terra@utaharts.org if you want to contribute or participate!!
Thank you!!

If you said "yes" (or even maybe), you are invited to the kick-off "Production Meeting" for this year's event, on Monday May 11, at 7 PM, at the City of Seven Gates (aka BassCamp). There will be a social 1/2 hour until 7:30 (real time, not Playa time) and then we'll get started.

While Element 11 is all about Participation, and everyone who comes in the gate is a potential participant, what we're talking about here is "Premeditated Participation"!
So if you're premeditating, please come to this meeting if you can make it.
- If you want to do any creative projects that involve teamwork, this is the place-- fire performance, drumming, music, burning effigies, etc.
- If you want to have a Theme Camp (a Theme Camp being a camp that has something participatory going on- whether it involves skillets, whips or pineapples)
- If you want to volunteer to help make the festival happen- everything from putting it up (Department of Public Works or DPW) to making sure it all gets cleaned up (Leave No Trace).

We will also be introducing the people who have volunteered to head up some of the bigger efforts, such as Center Camp, Art Wranglers, and Support services (Rangers, Greeters, Medical, etc.), and we want to hear from you why you're here and what you're planning and/or wondering. We'll then take all that info and take some time to collectively "imagineer" this year's festival.

The other major goal is to provide a time and place for you to connect with the people you need to talk to- whether about finding out the schedule for fire performance practices, to finding out who to talk to about being a Black Rock Ranger (at both E-11 and Burning Man).

If you can't make it to the meeting, if you want directions to the City of Seven Gates, or if you have questions that can't wait until May 11th for answers, send an email to
participate.element11@gmail.com, or call Chris Cline at 801-597-9961.

We're at 6 weeks and counting! ready, set, GO!!

Hello all!,

I am considering an Element burn project, however my ambition and concept are rapidly exceeding my skill level. Although I am not afraid to "rush into the dark" on this, I know that there are plenty of you out there who may be willing to help out.
We will be building this project in Ogden which may make for some traveling problems but with a little planning I think we could come together and make it happen in a timely manner.
Specifically I am looking for community members with experience in burn project co-ordination, building, and pyrotechnics, though any help is appreciated. Sorry that I am not going into more detail, but I do enjoy the prospect of creating a delicious mystery. He he he.
Contact me here or at quetzel55@comcast.net if you are interested.
thanks and loving light.

Ogden Garden?

I have a veggie garden in my backyard, I neglect it badly. It grows rhubarb, strawberries and chives all by itself, but will produce stuff like beans and squash and lettuce just fine if planted and tended. Corn, not so much, too small a plot. So if you, i.e. An Ogdenite wants to garden and have no place to do so, I have a garden and am not very good at it. We could split the produce?

Ogden BM Burners: It is time to show off

One of the reasons I was chosen by the Burning Man organization to be an RC was becuase I was very interested in networking the burners up here. As mentioned previously I am planning on Ogden hosting a newbie party in May to help new members of our community get excited about E11 and Burning Man and help them be prepared for the harsh and fun environment of Black Rock City. We could even do an overnight event. I am looking for ideas on this.

Second thought, an art piece, theme camp or other? created up here to bring to E11 and to Beyond the Zion Curtain this year at BM. Many of us would love to help with art projects but are not too excited about driving to SLC to volunteer, so why not create one up here? We have enough people and resources.

So please let me know what transformation or evolution ideas you have swimming in your head and lets get together soon over a few bottles of wine and make it happen.

And remember, I am available anytime for questions or if you have thoughts or concerns that you want me to take to the community meetings.

Please pass info along to anyone that you think might be interested.

March 10 Utah Regional BM Camp Meeting Notes

Beyond the Zion Curtain will be back on playa this year, officially. Last night many of us met at the C7G with representatives from E11/Utah Regional, 50 hrz Healerz, JellyFish, C7G, BRCCC, Euphoria and more. Everyone was very excited about the possibilities of what we can all do together. In the room was likely nearly 100 years of combined playa experience, many have been involved in large camps and have experience with Esplanade placement. All decisions were made by popular vote.

We discussed the resources that the Utah burn community can bring to the playa and voted on placement preferences. Basically we are imagining bringing Transformation to Evolution, but in a smaller space. Our camp will be limited to about 380 people, provided that people carpool and do not bring too many RVs and share resources.

The resources we plan to bring to BM:
Ganesh, Jellyfish, Fire Stage, the Beehive, SOUND, Obelisk, the Solar Disc, the Zion Curtain, a radio station, Mister Tent, the Velvet Soul Mine, the world’s largest disco ball (provided we can get funding and a crane?), Terra’s Lotus (maybe), the Pink Spot (maybe),the fire dome, Bebops and Chef Daddys new art car, the BRCCC kitchen that can feed up to 300/day, and…of course our fire dancers, DJs and more.

Camps to be incorporated into Beyond the Zion Curtain: 50 hrz Healerz, JellyFish, Euphoria, BRCCC and ?

Placement Choices: 1st choice, front corner of the 7:30 portal at Esplanade, 2nd Choice, between 7:30 and 9:00 on Esplanade, 3rd choice 2 and B in the “high noise” district…we are asking for an entire block.

Other things we talked about:
•	How all camps are “independent” but we may share some recourses, like perhaps power, porta potties, shade, evaporation systems and other infrastructure type things.
•	We planned for about 100 stragglers or independent campers, though we would like to have them register so we can get them a spot, RVs MUST register in advance and placement will be limited.
•	The large BRCCC kitchen is looking feed about 200+/day, they also have a large structure, hot/cold water, stoves, freezers, refrigerators, a large generator, a large evaporator and more, they are interested in working with members of the Zion Curtain camp.
•	Noise, LNT and parking issues.

In the works:
•	Terra is putting together a possible “map” of the camp
•	The application will be sent in within the next week or two (by the end of March)
•	BRCCC is working with Utah camps to figure out the kitchen possibilities
•	An online network will be formed either with Google Groups or a site like Ning to coordinate camp plans.
•	Tentative next meeting, March 23rd
•	Theme Camps: Please come to the next meeting prepared to give Terra a schedule of entertainment – we need to demonstrate to Burning Man that we will have 24 hrs interactivity – as a Village, each camp can contribute to some of this – please be prepared to talk about your part.

Well, it was a great meeting, decisions were made and we are definitely on our way to a popular BM camp. If you are a Utah Theme camp interested in applying with us to help us with placement please contact Terra at kallisti_dawn@yahoo.com.

Re-posted from Chris:

Hi All-
This was mentioned at last month's community burn meeting, and I haven't had a chance to put out a newsletter yet, but I just wanted to get this info out to people:

If you are interested in participating in a Utah collective/collaborative "village" at Burning Man this year, there will be a meeting at the City of Seven Gates (C7G) art space on Tuesday March 10th at 7PM to discuss and plan this.

Many of you may have participated in, or heard about the "Beyond the Zion Curtain" village at Burning Man in 2005. The ideas behind this year's effort are similar, but of course will be different because "it's always better next year!" Beyond that, it's still a creation in process, so if you're interested in helping to create it, this would be the time and place to show up.

C7G is located on 5th South, on the west side of town (SLC) at 2904 West. Park in the lots, BYOC (bring your own cup) and LNT (leave no trace).

If you want more info, or want to be put on the list to be informed about any updates, decisions and/or volunteer opportunities for this project, contact Terra at kallisti_dawn@yahoo.com
In Search of: E11 2009 Theme

Ok…it may seem early, but we are thinking THEME for E11 2009. At the last community meeting we did hear a few great ideas and I will share them with you now to inspire you, get your art juices flowing, or perhaps one of these themes just seems to hit the spot for you.

Please look over these themes and if you have an idea, send it to me with a brief explanation within two weeks, so we can start voting and have the theme decided by our next community meeting.

Here are some ideas we discussed at the last meeting:

1.	Gaia….not elaborated on too much, but see here for more info, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_(mythology)
2.	E11 MMIX, Mixed Up…in terms of evolution, in terms of ideas, with a tie in to the roman numerals, with a Romanesque tone
3.	Mother Goose, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Goose
4.	Mythos, tied into the historical cultural or idea evolution as opposed to biological evolution, myths, creation stories…
5.	The Menagerie, encompasses humans and animals, from domestication of animals to traveling exotic animal collections to royal animal collections, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menagerie.

Please send all of your ideas to me at ogden@burningman.com and we will put them to a vote soon.

Can’t wait to hear your ideas,

Tree Burn, Community Meeting Agenda, Updates

First Thing First….Tree Burn

Thank you, thank you, thank you for a glorious Tree Burn. According to Spice, who counted roughly 135 people, it was one of the biggest ever. We burned truckloads of trees and returned their Christmas joy to the air and earth, melted some snow, drummed, enjoyed fire spinners, ate amazing food and danced under a gorgeous full moon.

A big hug and thanks to those that brought food and coat donations for Salvation Army via Adrianne. Also, THANK YOU George and Linda for hosting, it was a lovely and much appreciated gift, we cannot thank you enough.

Community Meeting Agenda and Time
Place: UAA 2191 South 300 West in Salt Lake City
Date: January 18, 2009
Time: 4:00pm-5:30pm

Major Topic: Please come or send your thoughts, we will be discussing the E11 theme for this year.

Bring your Cheesy potatoes, your favorite hoodie and $5…because after our community meeting the Utah Arts Alliance is having a pot-luck-holiday-celebration-screen-printing-fundraiser - all in one!!

What's that?

Okay, so the Utah Burner Community Meeting is Sunday at 4pm (2191 South 300 West in slc) - and right after we close our meeting, we're all welcome to stay, share some good eats (bring what you like) and mingle with members the Utah Arts Alliance. This is also a fundraiser for the Great Golden Hive of the Invisible... for $5 you can have one of three Hive-related images screen printed onto an item of your choosing - you bring the item so get creative - aprons, messenger bags, t-shirts, hoodies, hats… - part of the fun is in what people bring and where they put the image...
See you Sunday! ~Secret T

I Need A Place...

This might be a long shot, but I won't know until I ask...

I need to find a place to live. Although I have generous and awesome people who have let me crash on their couch, I need to find somewhere more permanent. I am a student at the U and I have a job. I am looking for a place that will let me have my one-eyed declawed kitty, has wireless internet access, will let me smoke outside, is somewhere reasonably close to downtown Salt Lake, has a place to park a small red car, and doesn't cost more than about $330 a month. That pretty much leaves me with living in a communal situation, and I am totally cool with that. :)

Anyone have anything? I'm asking, and I haven't had much luck... and winter is breathing down my neck. If anyone has anything that would suit my paltry needs, please please PLEASE let me know.

(Since Tribe is flaky, my email address is wolfxnehi@hotmail.com... tag me and we can talk.)

Yours in the fire...

Greetings Utah Burners!

The Official Utah Decompression 2008 Organizers would like to thank each and everyone of you!

We have set-up a feedback e-mail account to gather all your feedback. Much like Burning Man Org, we'd like to compile all your feedback and issue a formal Decommission report. This is good for us, as it lets us know what you think, and it also simplifies keeping our communications with Burning Man Org open.

So tell us what you think! What did you think of the venue? Decorations and art? Music? How was your overall experience at the Official Utah Decompression 2008? What can we do better next year and in future events? What don't we dare change because it worked so well?

We have set-up the account officialUTDecomp08@gmail.com to catch all your feedback. We won't be looking at this until November 8, when we close the account and begin going through all the information.

Thank you all again for making The Official Utah Decompression 2008 a huge success!

Official Decomp Bar info

Hey, burners!

Myself and the Volunteers of the Official Utah Decompression Party Bar (the one at BassCamp), thought it would be a good idea to share how the bar will work this year, so you can exercise your radical self-reliance as it relates to partying and imbibing:

1. This is a donation bar! That means that we will purchase some alcohol and mixers, but we're also planning, hoping, and praying that some of you will be bringing your favorite mixers and booze to share with the rest of the community.

2. The alcohol you bring will be kept at the bar. Our insurance policy requires that all alcohol is kept at the bar once it enters the door. You will be given a certain number of drink tickets, depending on the size of bottle you bring. If there is alcohol left in the bottle you donated, you can take it home at the end of the night, but we're not going to chase you down to give it to you.

3. Drink tickets or raffle tickets can be exchanged for drinks. If you donate booze or mixers, you will have drink tickets. Donating funds to the raffle is encouraged and we'll happily get you a drink when you drop off your tickets at the bar. You will also get 2 complimentary raffle tickets at the door.

4. Bring your own cup! But nothing breakable, please. We will not be providing cups!

5. Suggested donations for tickets:

a. Raffle tickets are a suggested donation of $5 (Yes, there will be raffle prizes, too.)

b. Recommended drink ticket exchange: 6 for a gallon, 4 for a fifth, or 2 for a pint. Beer can be exchanged for 3 tickets per 6-pack. Mixers are 3 tickets per 2-litre bottle or 6-pack, and 3 tickets for each 32 ounces of tonic/juice/etc.

6. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available all night! Designated drivers, WE LOVE YOU! and will happily serve you non-alcoholic beverages.

7. If you have too much to drink…our bartenders will happily serve you coffee or soft-drinks, but no more alcohol. Also, we'll be happy to call a taxi, sober friend, or sober family member for you (but you'll have to pay for a taxi - plan ahead!).

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at hipfixer@gmail.com or Michelle at wanderingcherie@gmail.com!

Thanks, everyone! See you on Saturday!!

There have been some reports of problems with accessing the payment feature when you press the "Buy Now" button. If this happens do not despair. All you have to do is go to Pay Pal and pay $10 Dollars for each ticket PLUS $1 for each ticket purchased. So 1=$11, 2=$22, 3=$33, 4=$44 etc. The $1 per ticket covers the paypal transaction fee. The account to use is tuxmeister69@gmail.com. If this doesn't help, just send me a message and I will help you through the process.
BIG WEEKEND COMING UP!!

I heard that Thursday the 23rd was Kim Riley's birthday! Am I right? MMMMmmmmmmm! I love Kim!!! Send her your lovin too.

Worried that you may not have time to vote on Tuesday November 4th? Don't worry! You can vote early! If you live in Salt Lake County, here's the web address for all the early voting locations:
http://www.clerk.slco.org/elections/voteEarly.html
JUST DO IT!!! It's sooo important!

Okay, so there's the Obama Fundraiser on Friday night.... $10 at Pete Ashdown's funky 70's mansion "the pleasure palace". That sounds fun.... but what sounds like more fun is what's coming SATURDAY night!

SLC DECOMPRESSION!!!! Well, maybe it's not completely official, but it really is official enough for me. It's going to be loaded to the hilt with OUR art and craftiness, and it's to raise funds for next year's burns! Sounds like the right BM reunion to be attending this fall. Contact Terrae if you have playa wear or playa gear to sell... or if you have some ART that you want to display! I'm doing both and I'm getting really excited. Now I just need to finish my costume. ;-)

Looking forward to lovin on y'all. Yes, I did just get back from Texas.... but wasn't I like this before?? By the way, the Maker Faire is the coolest thing ever. I won me a blue ribbon for the algae thingy I did! (I don't think there was just one blue ribbon given out, however)
Tee heeeeh...

Decompression Party Updates (xpost from Element 11 Yahoo Group)

MONDAY Oct 10
Hey Burners-
Here are some timely reminders and updates for the Decompression Party this Saturday (Oct 25th) in Salt Lake City. Today's topics are tickets, art exhibits, and volunteering.

TICKETS:
Tickets are available on-line until 12:00 NOON on FRIDAY OCT 24th for $10 each, at http://www.geocities.com/utahregional/index.html. The cut-off will allow the "TicketMonster" to create an accurate gate list, which will speed your entry to the party. You will also need to have Valid ID, to prove both your identity and your age (21+). If you have any other questions regarding tickets, contact the TicketMonster at tuxmeister69@gmail.com

Gate Sales: Will be $15 at the door, with a $5 discount if you've attended the Art & Shelter Party at Rose Sachs. You can purchase tickets at the door with cash or credit card (CC fees apply). All tickets include two raffle tickets (a $5 value).
EVENT STARTS at 9PM, runs late.

A Word about the "Comp" Policy: The "Complimentary Ticket" policy for this event is simple: There aren't any, for anyone. This is a community-produced event, and everyone, down to the the guy selling tickets, needs to purchase a ticket to attend.

ART EXHIBITS-
We have space for artists to display their art-- both hanging art (wall space) and dimensional art (exhibit space). Space is limited, and your exhibit must be self-supported, down to the last nail and piece of wire to hang a picture. If you'd like to exhibit, get in touch with Terra at kallisti_dawn@yahoo.com.

VOLUNTEERING:
We need volunteers for GREETING (parking cars and "landing people"), LEAVE NO TRACE (before and after the event), and SETUP (before the event).. We also have a few openings left for BARTENDERS (esp. for those with TIPS training). To Volunteer, email hipfixer@gmail.com

REMEMBER, THIS IS A LEAVE-NO-TRACE, "BRING YOUR OWN CUP" EVENT!!
Costumes and Random Acts of Creativity Encouraged!!
So are Carpooling and Designated Drivers!!

FWD from Bex: Last Chance for Community Feedback Loop!‏

Greetings Utah Burners!

Last week several members of the Regionals Committee from BMHQ visited
Salt Lake City to conduct in person interviews for Regional Contact.

We have previously posted a request and opportunity for you to share
your feedback about the candidates with us. Since Regional Contacts are
members of your local community and are working to help strengthen and
foster connections in your region, the Burning Man Project decided that
we would like to gather feedback about the candidates under
consideration to assist us in making the best selection for your local
community. We are using a confidential survey tool to collect this
information.

The candidates are:

Kallisti Dawn aka Terra
Wolf Proctor
Jacob Steiz
Julie LaTendresse aka Salt Phoenix
Chris Cline
Eldon Willis aka Spice
Alyce Lawrence aka Dalai Mama
Michele Barlow aka Go Go Girl
Leigh Sampson aka Bystander
Pamela Stevens aka Honey

If you know any of the candidates on the list and would like to let us
know if you think they would make a good Regional Contact and why,
please take a few minutes to let us know. This information is
confidential and will only be used to help us select a Regional Contact
team that will best work with and for Utah.

The three page survey is found at the url below.
http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB228BWFQZD54

If you have questions about this process please get in touch via
regionals@burningman.com

This is your last chance to take the survey. We will close the survey at
the end of this week on Friday 10/24.

Giddyup!

Reminder: Decompression Tickets at Hornet's nest Mixer 9/16 at 7pm

Just a reminder to all the beautiful people out there that Decompression admission will be available at the Hornet's Nest meeting this Oct. 16 starting at 7pm! They are priced at $10. I will be doing CASH SALES ONLY. Sorry, no checks or credit cards.

This will all happen on Thursday evening at Bad Ass Coffee which is located at 3530 South State St. I will also be speaking briefly about Decompression, Burning Man, and future plans and possibilities for music and art in Utah.

It all starts about 7 o'clock in the evening. Do come! It's open to the public and there will be no cover charge when we move next door to the Dawg Pound. There will be lots of beautiful people, talented musicians, and good times! I believe that the bands will have merchandise and show tickets at this meeting, so bring a little extra (besides your Decompression ticket money, of course!) and show our local scene some love! Come early for coffee, stay for beer and a special open jam session featuring some of the best of our local musicians. As a Burning Man Regional Candidate, I will also be available to the community at large at the Hornet's Nest mixer for any questions or concerns you may have for me. It will be a chance to get to know me, my intentions, and realize that I am indeed doing my best to work in the interests of our beautiful Burn community.

Remember: If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong! You should go. It will be a good time. I hope to see you there...

Yours in the fire,

Wolf

P.S.- Depending on how many tickets I have left after the Hornet's Nest, I will be considering being a a different location this weekend to make cash sales available. I will keep you posted. Those who know me can also just hit me up when you see me... I will have the tickets with me until they are gone. :)

Fwd from Bex: Update Utah - Regional Contacts, Decompression and More.

Greetings Utah Burners -

Bex here, Regional Network Administrator for Burning Man. I write you
today with an update about Regional happenings in your area.

As many of you know, for several months we have had an open call out
seeking candidates for one or more new Regional Contacts to step forward
to represent the Utah community. We’d like to thank Dave23 for his years
of support and for continuing to help hold down the fort while we make
our way through the transition with you. THANK YOU Dave23!

We have posted an announcement several times to this list to let your
community know what it means to be a Regional Contact for Burning Man
and how to apply. We are preparing to start scheduling more interviews
with the newest candidates for the Utah Regional Contact position, and
want to let you know there is still time to apply.

Because Utah is such a vibrant and important Burning Man community, our
aim is to find the right formula for a team to take things to the
future, and the right combination of personalities and leadership skills
to create that team. Thus, although we have already met some great
candidates, we’d like to cast this net as wide as possible, so we would
very much like to hear from anyone who is interested in or has questions
about the role. (More details about the role and how to apply are
included at the end of this email.) Anyone from the area who has
attended Burning Man at least once is welcome to apply – we’d love to
hear from the broadest sample of folks possible. We are planning to
actually visit Salt Lake City in early October to conduct in-person
interviews; please get in touch before *October 5th* if you’d like to
apply for the role.

Once we’ve heard from this final wave of candidates, we will enter into
the next phase of the regional intake process, the Community Feedback
Loop. This is your opportunity to speak on behalf of local candidates
you’re familiar with and help have a voice in the decision about who
will ultimately be on your team of co-regionals. Because short
interviews can only tell us so much about a candidate, Burning Man takes
this part of the process very seriously and we want to hear from as many
Utah Burners as possible, so we can select the right Regional Contact(s)
who will best reflect the needs of all the members of your community.
Keep an eye on this list for the Feedback Loop.

WHAT IS A REGIONAL CONTACT’S ROLE?

As we have seen in other areas, we’re noting in the recent discussions
that there may be some confusion about what it means to be a Regional
Contact and what the role really entails, especially as regards events
like Decompressions and regional burns We’d like to take a moment to
clarify that the greatest part of the role of a Regional Contact is to
foster community, encourage social engagement between Burners
year-round, and to represent Burning Man locally. As Schedule A of the
Letter of Agreement (http://regionals.burningman.com/network_letter.html
)states, one of the responsibilities of a Regional Contact is to bring
the local community together at least once a year – but contrary to what
some believe, this role is not about throwing events, necessarily, and
RC’s are not thought of as “event producers.” This excerpt from the
Letter of Agreement explains one requirement of the role:

“ (Regional Contacts must) bring the local community together at least
once a year – Real life contact is vital part of creating and building
community. RCs are NOT required to plan big events or parties. Hosting a
simple gathering at a local coffee shop to share pictures and stories
is a highly effective community builder. However, if there are people in
the area who wish to put together larger events for the local community,
the RC’s affiliation and participation in the planning are encouraged.
Note that any event that wishes to be designated an “official” regional
gathering may be designated so only if the RC is actively involved --
especially when proceeds are gained from charging an admission price.
Funds from such events should be routed to benefit the local regional
community and the Burning Man community at large. For example, regional
groups sometimes use this money to seed future events and art projects,
fund server space for local websites, award local ticket scholarships,
and to make donations to the Black Rock Arts Foundation or the
Burning Man Regional Network Program. Currently, use of the name
“Burning Man,” “Decompression,” “Black Rock City” or “Flambé Lounge” in
association with a public event requires prior approval from Burning Man.”

As stated above, bringing people together face-to-face does not mean
producing an event or throwing a big party. Regional Contacts are often
a catalyst to helping such events happen, but they are not necessarily
themselves event promoters, nor are they expected to ensure the
production of either Decompression style events or multi-day camp-out
“burn” events. Truly, the only requirement regarding such events is that
if a local event of either of those types is being organized and the
Regional wishes for it to be promoted as an official Burning Man event
and receive the support of the organization, the Regional Contact(s)
must vouch for the production’s adherence to the Ten Principles, its
legal and insured status, and that any funds raised from the event will
be applied only to the good of the community at large, rather than just
to one project or group.

The community meeting that your group had recently counts as one example
of ‘bringing people together’ that isn’t necessarily related to a party
or event. Although celebration is no doubt one of the most fun parts of
organizing a local community, it isn’t what we mean for Regional
Contacts to be responsible for – but we do want to offer mechanisms of
support for such events that are a natural outgrowth of a local
community. Other ways to bring people together that meet the criteria
are meet and greets, picnics, slide shows, civic clean up projects, etc.
– and we’re interested in nurturing the proliferation of all such types
of events – not just parties – and in Regional Contacts who are also
interested in those expanded types of connectivity beyond celebratory
social events.

YOUR LOCAL DECOMPRESSION EVENT

Although we have just stated that parties aren’t the main purpose for
having Regional Contacts, we are still very supportive of the notion of
local celebration and Decompression gatherings. We understand there is
momentum to create such a Decompression for the Utah community, and
although Utah is currently without active official representation as a
Regional Contact, we would like to find a way to extend your group the
right to call an event a Burning Man Decompression, and support you
however we can with this event.

We have been in communication with six people (who have all applied with
their interest in the Regional Contact role) to discuss the
possibilities and guidelines that must be met in order to hold an
official Decompression event in Utah. We are working with this group of
volunteers and helping them gain access to the information needed so
that this event may happen and obtain official Regional status. If all
requirements are met, we will endeavor to enter into a one-time legal
agreement with a representative from that group to license use of the
trademarks associated with official Decompression events, until such
time as your official local representation is in place.

We are very pleased to see that the Utah community is coming together to
communicate and overcome some of the recent challenges it has faced. We
encourage you all to continue communicating and meeting in person where
possible, and to work together to help support the upcoming
Decompression event.

The Utah community is notably large, diverse and creative, and the roots
of the events you do together and your connection to one another dates
back many, many years. We look forward to speaking with the various
leaders and players within your community to find the Regional Contact
team that will best function to support and nurture the Burning Man
community in Utah to the next level.

For questions, comments or to apply to be Regional Contact, please get
in touch via: regionals@burningman.com

Cheers,
Bex

Regional Contact Leadership Criteria and Expectations

There are some basic skills that you need to have for this role – you
must be computer literate, of course, and a good communicator with both
spoken and the written word. But there’s much more to the role than nuts
and bolts.

A Regional Contact must have leadership skills and be committed to
collaboration. Have you worked in a group before? Managed a team or a
project? It is important that RC’s be enthusiastic about working with
and organizing people. This role is, at its very core, about
collaborating with others. You must be the sort of person who is
committed to collaboration – with co-regionals, with the participants in
your area, and with regionals across the network and those in
geographically adjacent areas. Sometimes, it’s important to view
leadership as “followership”.

In many cases, especially as the Network grows, and particularly in
urban areas, we’re asking Regionals to come aboard as members of a team
of co-regionals. Our process for selection of these teams represents a
very studied formula to create a balance of personality types, of
thinkers and do-ers, of diverse segments of a community, and a range of
leadership qualities. You may not end up working with your “best
friends” in this role – our “chemistry equation” may put you in a team
with people you have never met and put you in contact with members of
very divergent local sub-communities. Even if you are the sole regional
contact in a smaller area, a dedication to collaboration with a diverse
variety of people and viewpoints is the only way you will meet success
in this role.

As in any other situation where people work together, it’s not always
easy, and challenges can arise. Most Regional Contacts would agree that
sometimes one may be put into challenging situations requiring one to
help facilitate your community through a problem or issue. More and more
often, we look for Regional Contacts who posses the skills to be able to
help mediate and facilitate in such situations virtually or in person. A
cool head and a nondefensive attitude are integral tools to this role –
one must keep them about oneself at all times, especially when things
get rocky. Being able to remain impartial to situations and conflicts
that might involve friends or peers is important. A good Regional
Contact needs to be able to see the big picture and to help the others
to do the same or to feel heard and find resolution. A Regional Contact
will often be called upon to use active listening skills, and must be
able to make everyone feel heard.

As a community leader, we specifically look for individuals who can
speak about Burning Man culture and values, and do so in a way that
inspires people towards shared vision. A good Regional Contact should be
able to help a community consider a local regional mission. This always
helps in moving and motivating a community towards projects beyond
celebrations.

Being active in a local community and civic minded is another quality we
appreciate. It’s great to want to produce the next big Regional event,
but there is so much more that can be done to help bring people together
and share the Burning Man spirit and ethos in the world. We seek to work
with Regional Contacts who have an interest in bringing local burners
together to engage in social or civic projects that benefit the local
community, for example – the sort of interaction that reaches far beyond
parties or events. Indeed, a regional does not need to attend every
party or event in their area, but he or she should maintain an active
awareness of the local social climate, nonetheless.

Being open to new ideas and concepts is another important quality. RC’s
need to be able to listen to and hear information from various sources
and to be open to working with the people or concepts present. Let’s not
forget that Radical Inclusion is one of the 10 Principles, at the
forefront of being a Regional Contact. Sometimes one will need to put
personal preferences or opinions aside and help to do the right thing
for the community. Remember, being an RC isn’t about you, it’s about
community.

Other skills that are important to this role include good written and
communications skills, an enthusiasm for working with people; an ability
to articulate the values of Burning Man, and to offer insight and
interpretation of how the “Ten Principles” and other Burning Man ethics
can apply to the local community and the world around us.

This is not an all inclusive list of qualities we look for in Regional
Contacts but hopefully this does the job of giving you a bit more info
and understanding of the role. If you have other questions, feel free to
get in touch with us via regionals@burningman.com

community meeting?

okay so does no one in the local burningman community have any sense of irony but me?
there has been endless bickering about how Vivid has usurped the local community and its
funds. So now a "community meeting" has been held where only 30-40 of the 1000+ community
members attended and five were declared interim leaders by virtue of the fact that they
have applied to be the new RCs. While the yahoo list is supposedly "closed" it has been opened to
allow for the announcement of the new pentumverate of "leaders," but not for any other dissent. I agree
that the debate has gotten way outa hand and I don't wish to disparage any of the
five who I know to be well-intentioned people, but WTF? people. Even assuming that possessing the
imprimatur of the Bmorg entitled one to exercise control over this entire community, which is a tenuous
suggestion at best, the Bmorg has not seen fit to appoint an RC for over a year and might not approve any of
the five, although that does not seem likely. meanwhile it seems like we are all engaged in a amateur production of waiting for godot based upon the belief that having an RC is going to solve the fundamental differences that people
seem to have.

I myself, like many it would appear, have had more than enough of watching a handful of people fight the battle between offical/unoffical regional status. Granted, this community has always been ruled by the handful of people
who step up to the plate to make it happen, and that is fair to some extent, but maybe the rest of us would be more interested if it was not always such a total clusterfuck? I fail to see how the new five has any more claim to legitimacy than does vivid.

just a few thoughts
JP

Figured what better place to request a guide than from a resident & burner?

I'm planning on being out there for 5 days, 4 nights. Plans are not concrete. Would like to start the trip after the upcoming equinox.

Anyone interested in going along for the ride and guiding the trek? My only request is that you are familiar with the area and bring everything you need for yourself for the duration.

The intention of this journey is to find a few answers that seem to be currently just beyond my vision. Not "to party"...I'd be happy too clarify offline.

Hey everybody!

So I grew up in Salt Lake but never made it out to the Burn until after I had moved to Berkeley and god damn do you people rock. I hung out with a couple of neighbors this year, chill Utahns, at around 5 O'Clock and F-G. Unfortunately I don't remember too many names but I do remember a beautiful woman named Amber. We went and had some branding done and had some great conversation. I'm wondering if anyone out there might know this Amber and if so could put me in touch with her. I lent her my shemagh and I'd like to meet up with her next year to see if I can snag it back. ;D

Thanks people. I'll be sure to check in whenever I'm visiting SLC. Keep up the burn goin!

Dear Sir & Madame,
We would like to invite, no, request your most honorable presence at the 6th annual Celestial Cacophony Celebration at the famed urban gathering place of suprenatural bueaty and populace...Libertin e Park, in the beating heart of Hatu. Art,Grilled Beast, Fruit & Foliage abounds! BYO Everything and see what there is to share! In the course of the last 6 years we have had lots of fun and many connections have been made.
We will, as always, burn a "thing" in the fireplace ...that means a "'some" thing or whatever you want it to be! WHEN: SUNDAY August 31, the year of ourselves 2008TIME: 3PM until they make us leave..which is about 11PmWHAT: SLAC-O-PHONY cacophonous home town burn art attack and grub fest......you may already be a member.WHERE: Liberty Park - The fire place/pinic area just northeast of the Drum Circle. Accessible to most via public transporation! WHY: Because it was the Cacophonus who BROUGHT IT to the playa in the first place!!COST: byo everything, no fees apply! And now gentle folk ,some light reading for those who yearn for knowledge about the beloved Burning Man...an exerpt from one of the original burners.. John Law Burning Man belongs to everyone. (read the whole thing at john's site, link below) ....Some of you know this history, some don't.In 1986, Jerry James cobbled together an 8 foot tall human figure and burned it on Baker Beach with Larry Harvey. They got the idea after they had attended Baker Beach Solstice bonfires & art soirees hosted by Mary Grauberger in the early 80's. Jerry James looked me and the Cacophony Society up in 1988 and asked for our help and by 1990 we were integrally involved in the Baker Beach party. The Baker Beach parties were beach bonfire parties with little planned "participation" other than attendees picking up a rope to help raise the figure before torching. I recall on the Solstice of 1990 (the last and by far biggest event at Baker Beach) that the entire music presentation consisted of one rock/jazz drum kit ably commanded by Dean Gustafson (god bless him!) Cacophony dubbed the events Burning Man in 1989.The Cacophony Society was conversant in organizing strange and intense events in dangerous and unusual locations. Once involved, Cacophony influence encouraged and inspired the event to attain much greater and more ambitious goals. The original event organizing at the Black Rock was easily 90% Cacophony members or alumni. My involvement was crucial to the survival.Kevin Evans and I were planning a Cacophony Society event in the Black Rock Desert for late summer 1990. Earlier in June of that year we all helped out with the Baker Beach party. The police came and would not allow us to burn the figure. A small hand full of us helped Jerry James deconstruct (literally – OK?) the figure of the man and stored it at a lot Jerry had secured.

My two roomies are moving out at the end of this month, which as you all know is really bad timing, so I need to find one or two roomies to live here at least till the lease is up in mid/late Nov or I'm gonna be in deep s#!@.
It's a house with a pretty big back yard and a fence so it's pet friendly and a washer and dryer. There are three rooms. If I only find one rommate then we will both pay $550. and share the extra room(for storage, crafting etc). If I find two then the big room will be $400 a month and the small one will be $300.
I am a young female who is honest, fun and easy to get along with and I have one handsome dog named boogs. I would like to have a vegitairian (I'm sensitive to meat smells and "meat germs"), Perferably female, Roomie. Someone who is honest, reliable, trustworthy, repectfull, fairly clean, responsible and burner friendly.
If you have any questions or want to see the house just e-mail me and let me know I'll be happy to have you over to see the house and for us to get a feel for eachother to see if things will work out. silver_c_vegan2000@yahoo.com

Utah Valley Commons, a cohousing community to be located south of Salt Lake City and within commuting distance of Utah Valley State College and Brigham Young University, welcomes participation by individuals and families interested in: co-housing, eco-village development, permaculture, and sustainable living in general. The UVCC has no religious or political affiliation. Everyone is welcome.

At present we are early in the planning stage, and no site has been selected. The list will serve as forum for discussion, and will lead to practical expression in the form of eco-village and/or co-housing development in or near Provo, Utah. Our models are Eco-Village at Ithaca (www.ecovillage.ithaca.ny.us/), Champlain Valley Co-Housing (www.champlainvalleycohousing.org), the Wasatch Commons (www.econ.utah.edu/~ehrbar/c...ndex.htm), and Earthsong Eco-Neighborhood (www.earthsong.org.nz), suitably modified to local conditions.

with

Bassnectar
http://bassnectar.net , Om Records, SF

SAN FRANCISCO’S PREMIER CULT DJ / PRODUCER

There are nearly three-hundred and sixty five nights a year, and on one third of them, somewhere across North America, you will find a modern day social mosh pit of hippies, ex-ravers, hipsters, dub reggae heads, Dead-heads, Burning Man freaks, artists, fashion experimentalists, social activists, and hip-hop enthusiasts all packed into one steamy room of grinding, orgiastic expression and musical experimentation known as a bass ritual, or, more precisely, a night with Bassnectar.

Playing at over TWO-hundred and fifty shows a year; to thousands of different people a month; from sold out festivals to overcrowded clubs and warehouses to tight and tiny bars and venues; Bassnectar’s enormous popularity reflects the current hunger for raw substance in modern music and a desire for social integrity inside the party scene.

Bassnectar’s double-disc collection 2005 debut entitled "Mesmerizing The Ultra," a journey through next-level musical mutations, dreamy dubtempo, massive bass lines, heavy sledgehammer beats, head-nodding hip-hop, and a wild assortment of unlikely collaborations; remixing and producing with such artists as the enigmatic and mysterious Buckethead, the jam band super group Sound Tribe Sector 9, cult bluegrass rock star Michael Kang (String Cheese Incident), roots musical activists like Michael Franti (Spearhead), Heavyweight Dub Champion and KRS One, and dubstep/breakbeat pioneer FreQ Nasty. Both critically acclaimed and voraciously consumed, the record helped define the current sound of the West Coast Underground.

Bassnectar’s most recent full-length release, "Underground Communication." Is where he takes another step forward with is genre-blending of musical styles and emotions, combining the visceral melodic presence of modern listening music, with the force and volume of sound system dancehall devastation. WHILE the previous record featured collaborations with musicians and bands, the new record is more of an exploration of hip-hop culture, featuring scores of MCs and rhythmic poetics mashed atop a heavy driving range of tempo and, of course, those signature throbbing bass lines. Rooted firmly in political conviction, philosophical intention and backed by a rabid fan base and dedicated following, “Underground Communication” sets a new standard for the possibilities of merging music, art, new media and social activism.

Speaking on the meaning behind the title of the album, Bassnectar explains "It centers on the concepts of indie media, the strength of underground networking, social activism and defiance through music, hip hop, and the internet." Judging from his enormous following without any commercial radio play, media push, or licensing product placement hype, the title fits perfectly, and comes at a time when issues of net neutrality, corporate media, and privatization of radio and news outlets couldn’t be more crucial. Already gaining critical acclaim from tastemakers at URB, FLAVORPILL, and BPM along with winning local Nitevibe.com, SF Weekly and SF Bay Guardian honors for San Francisco's "Best DJ," Bassnectar’s music is forging new paths in the electronic music world, the Burning Man scene, underground hip hop circles, and beyond.

Crowd pleasing singles are, "Yo" featuring Spanish rapper Kristina Maria with remixes by Princess Superstar, Zion I (Amp Live), Speaker Junk and “Bomb The Blocks” featuring underground queen MC Persia with remixes by Ghislain Poirier, Magik Johnson, Daz-IKue and Bassnectar.

Currently when Bassnectar is not working your town into a frenzy, he can be found 24/7 working on his upcoming release for 2008 and also working on new shows. Look for a new single in the Spring and keep checking (www.bassnectar.net) for the latest podcasts and updates

Darlene first became interested in the art of DJing in early 2005, shortly after being told by an acquaintance that she couldn't touch his turntables because they were "too technical"...

... she immediately marched down to her local music store and picked up a pair and from that day on, she got straight down-to-business - sharpening her beat-matching, programming and track-selection. Two short years later, after holding down a residence and aiding in promoting the successful and long-running "Extra Strength Saturdays" @ Die Maschine... nowadays Miss SW@T plays many local & out of city / province events and club-nights, whipping Canada's dance-floors into dripping masses... as well as playing feature sets on local university radio station 101.5 UMFM "Bassline Dropouts" (Saturdays nights from 7-9:30 CST) local Bassdrive.com show "Rinseout Radio" (also Saturdays from 7-?? CST) - Darlene feels quite secure in her place as one of the proud (and few) female DJs in Winnipeg, MB.

Missing Dome Materials from SeaBase and some postevent cleanup kudos.

Does anyone out there know anything about my missing Dome materials from Seabase? As many of you might recall I built a Ganesha temple for E 11 out of a small two frequency dome and some black shade cloth. Sunday afternoon I bundled up the individual bars and the shade cloth in a large blue tarp and left it out at Seabase. Afterwards I left the tarp weighed down by rocks just south east of the 50' circle where I had built my temple.

When I returned to Seabase this past Saturday I found that my dome materials where missing. Did anybody out there happen to pick up this tarp and contents during one of the several post event cleanups which have taken place out at SeaBase over the past week? This Dome has an enormous amount of sentimental value to me. It was originally constructed by CoCo and a group of Sacramento Burners several years ago and has since been to BRC and E11 on multiple occasions. If anyone has any information about the whereabouts of the dome please let me know. I would be eternally grateful to have this important piece of playa gear returned to me.

On another note when I went out to SeaBase this past weekend I was amazed at how good the playa looked. There was absolutely no moop to be seen, and only the two largest burn scars and the remnants of a few other camps remained. Many thanks to Chuck of Arabia, Steve Neves, Chef Daddy and all of their crews for doing so much work on the site over the past several days.

Yours in the fire.
